Trampolines are one of the best purchases you can make if you’re looking for a fun way to get the entire family outside and exercising. After all, who doesn’t enjoy bouncing on a trampoline?
That said, they are an investment and one that should be made only after carefully considering which trampoline size and shape is right for you and your kids. Before you go shopping, check out these tips to help ensure you’re choosing the perfect trampoline for your family.
1. Determine how many people will be using the trampoline at once
If you only need your trampoline to accommodate one child at a time, a smaller, round trampoline, like our BERG Champion Above-Ground 11ft + Safety Net Deluxe, would be a perfect choice.
However, if you have multiple kids, or plan on jumping together as a family, you might consider something a bit larger. If a round trampoline suits your needs best, the BERG Grand Champion Above-Ground 17ft + Safety Net Deluxe has all the space you need. Or if you’re interested in an in-ground model, the 14ft X 10ft Rectangular Capital In-Ground Trampoline has plenty of room for multiple jumpers.
2. Take a look at your yard space
It may seem like a lot, but to accommodate a trampoline safely, you need to have at least 24 feet of overhead clearance. This ensures jumpers of all sizes, heights, and weights won’t be at risk for jumping too high and knocking into a tree branch.
Ideally, you should have a minimum of two feet of clearance around your trampoline. However, just to be safe, you are better off having six feet of clearance around the perimeter of a trampoline.
Additionally, make sure you’ll be able to place your trampoline on top of grass or soil, in a flat and level area.
3. Consider the jumper’s skill level
This is where the shape of your new trampoline can make a huge difference. For example, if the person using the trampoline is a gymnast, or looking to start gymnastics, a large, rectangular trampoline is the best choice. We carry 14x10 and 11x8 in-ground, rectangular trampolines perfect for aspiring gymnasts.
However, if your new trampoline is for casual use, oval or round shapes should suit your needs. Just remember to choose a size that’s proportionate to how many jumpers you’ll have!
